YouTube has introduced its Premium Lite plan in India, offering ad-free video playback at a lower price compared to the full Premium subscription. The plan, already available in the US, is now expanding to India.
The YouTube Premium Lite subscription costs Rs. 89 per month, the same as the Premium student plan. Unlike the flagship Premium plan, which is priced at Rs. 1,490 annually (with student and family discounts available), the Lite version does not include YouTube Music.

According to YouTube, the Lite plan removes ads from “most” videos across categories like gaming, fashion, beauty, news, and more. However, the company clarified that some ads may still appear—particularly on Shorts, music content, and during search or browsing.
Unlike the full Premium plan, Lite users won’t have access to features like background playback or offline downloads. The plan is supported on multiple devices, including smartphones, laptops, and smart TVs.
For comparison:
- Individual Premium Plan: Rs. 149/month
- Duo Plan (2 members): Rs. 219/month
- Family Plan (up to 5 members): Rs. 299/month
- Annual Premium Plan: Rs. 1,490
The new Lite subscription is aimed at users who want an affordable way to watch YouTube videos without frequent ads but don’t need the extra features bundled with the full Premium experience
