Unlike most apps that debut on Apple devices first, WhatsApp took the opposite route by launching its standalone app for WearOS before Apple Watch. However, according to a new report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has now created a companion app for watchOS.
What’s New with WhatsApp on Apple Watch?
As this is the first version, the app currently supports only basic features. Users can receive and reply to messages, send voice notes, and react to texts by long-pressing with emojis. The app isn’t standalone — it requires your iPhone to stay connected for WhatsApp to work on your Apple Watch.

Once linked, the app syncs automatically with your iPhone, displaying all your chats, including pinned ones at the top. Since it’s still in beta testing, access is limited, and most users may not get to try it just yet.
There’s no official release date for the full rollout, but hopefully, it won’t take as long as the iPad version did.
