VAST Amplify Boosts Flash Storage Capacity Amid Industry-Wide Supply Constraints

As global flash supply constraints continue to tighten storage availability and extend procurement timelines, VAST Data, the AI Operating System company, has introduced a new capacity optimization initiative called VAST Amplify. The program is designed to help enterprises and service providers dramatically increase their effective flash capacity using the SSDs they already own, reducing reliance on new hardware purchases during a period of limited supply.

With SSD allocation windows shrinking and lead times growing longer, organizations are increasingly forced to make difficult trade-offs between delaying critical projects, rationing storage capacity, or accepting suboptimal hardware allocations. VAST Amplify addresses these challenges by providing a structured, methodical approach to identifying underutilized flash, qualifying existing hardware for reuse, and consolidating capacity into the VAST AI Operating System’s unified Disaggregated Shared Everything (DASE) architecture.

According to the company, this approach can significantly increase usable capacity depending on workload characteristics and the existing environment while enabling customers to continue scaling AI, analytics, and data-intensive workloads without waiting for new procurement cycles.

At its core, VAST Amplify helps organizations reclaim stranded SSD capacity that has been locked away in fragmented silos or constrained by legacy architectures. By converting installed flash into a globally accessible, shared pool, customers can extract far more value from their current investments, even as flash becomes scarcer and more expensive across the industry.

“Storage scarcity is forcing organizations into impossible trade-offs delay programs, ration capacity, or accept whatever allocation they can get,” said Phil Manez, Vice President of GTM Execution at VAST Data. “With VAST Amplify, we’re giving customers a practical alternative: reclaim the flash you already have, consolidate it into a modern architecture, and materially increase the usable capacity and performance you can deliver to the business.”

A Structured Path to Measurable Efficiency Gains

VAST Amplify is designed to meet customers where they are both operationally and technically while aligning each phase of engagement to measurable efficiency improvements at scale. The program encompasses several key components:

    Estate Intelligence
VAST begins by analyzing the customer’s storage environment to identify underutilized SSD capacity, fragmentation across infrastructure silos, and architecture-driven inefficiencies that suppress effective capacity. This assessment provides a clear baseline for optimization.

    Rapid Platform Qualification
To reduce dependency on new hardware allocations, VAST accelerates the qualification of existing server and SSD configurations. This enables customers to reuse installed flash with confidence and establish a direct path to production without lengthy validation cycles.

    Capacity Reclamation and Pooling
VAST Amplify helps customers repurpose and consolidate existing SSD investments into a unified VAST environment. Once pooled, capacity becomes globally accessible and dynamically allocated, no longer limited by individual servers or legacy design constraints.

    Platform-Level Durability
Instead of relying on replication-heavy data protection methods, VAST handles durability at the platform layer using highly efficient erasure coding. This approach maintains resilience at scale while significantly increasing usable capacity.

    Global Similarity-Based Data Reduction
Continuous, global data reduction is applied across the entire namespace, eliminating redundant data patterns wherever they appear not just within individual volumes. This enables materially higher effective capacity from a fixed flash footprint.

    SCM-Optimized Write Architecture
Random and bursty write workloads are absorbed by Storage Class Memory (SCM) and written to SSDs in larger, sequential segments. This reduces write amplification, improves flash endurance, and sustains low-latency performance without requiring over-provisioned SSD capacity.

Up to 6× More Effective Capacity from Existing Flash

By combining platform-level durability, global data reduction, and SCM-based write efficiency, VAST Amplify can deliver up to six times or more effective capacity from existing SSD investments, depending on workload profiles and deployment environments.

In an era where flash supply constraints are reshaping infrastructure planning, VAST Amplify positions itself as a pragmatic alternative to traditional scale-out procurement strategies allowing organizations to unlock hidden capacity, protect performance, and sustain growth using the hardware already in place.
