Perplexity AI has rolled out its new Comet browser in India, marking one of its biggest moves into the country’s fast-growing internet market. Built on Chromium, Comet is pitched as a transition from “browsing to thinking” and is currently available only to Perplexity Pro subscribers.
Unlike traditional browsers, Comet features a built-in AI sidebar that stays active at all times. This allows users to perform multi-step tasks like comparing prices, booking meetings, drafting emails, making transactions, or even managing research workflows by summarizing documents and tracking projects across tabs.
The browser is already live on Windows and macOS, with Android pre-orders open and iOS support on the way. Perplexity’s co-founder and CEO, Aravind Srinivas, described Comet as a “thinking partner” on X.
To accelerate growth in India, the company has partnered with Bharti Airtel, offering millions of Airtel customers a free one-year Pro subscription. Perplexity is also hiring locally, signaling its long-term commitment to the Indian market.
On the privacy side, Comet keeps browsing history and AI interactions stored locally with end-to-end encryption, while also supporting popular password managers and enterprise compliance standards.
By choosing India for the launch, Perplexity aims to tap into a critical hub for AI adoption with a browser designed for automation, simplicity, and complete workflow management.
