OpenAI, led by Sam Altman, announced that starting 4 November, users in India can enjoy one year of free access to ChatGPT Go as part of a limited-time promotional offer. The announcement comes just before the company’s upcoming DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru, its first-ever in India.
The offer applies to both new users and existing ChatGPT Go subscribers, who will automatically receive an extra 12 months of free access.
What is ChatGPT Go?
Introduced in India in August, ChatGPT Go is an affordable version of ChatGPT designed to make advanced AI tools more accessible. It provides users with higher message limits, image generation, and file upload features, catering to both personal and professional needs.
India was one of the first countries to receive ChatGPT Go, highlighting OpenAI’s growing focus on the region. The plan’s success led to a rapid increase in paid subscriptions in India, prompting OpenAI to expand the service to nearly 90 countries worldwide.
India’s growing importance to OpenAI
India is now OpenAI’s second-largest and one of its fastest-growing markets, with millions of developers, students, and professionals using ChatGPT daily.
“This initiative reinforces our ‘India-first’ approach and aligns with the IndiaAI Mission, supporting the nation’s momentum in artificial intelligence as it gears up for the AI Impact Summit next year,” OpenAI stated.
Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, expressed his appreciation for Indian users’ enthusiasm.
“Since launching ChatGPT Go in India, the adoption and creativity we’ve witnessed have been remarkable,” Turley said. “As we approach our first DevDay Exchange event here, we’re making ChatGPT Go free for a year so that more people in India can explore and benefit from advanced AI technology.”
