Today, I am going to share you all, some things that you should know and understand about VPS (Virtual Private Server). First thing you need to know about the difference between a VPS and a Dedicated Server.
VPS is a server itself which perform as same as that of a Dedicated server. Its resources are virtual. You can access the root, edit the port, IP and more. The VPS is created from a Dedicated Server. When creating a VPS, virtualization can be done in many forms OpenVz, KVM. These two are most used and seen mode of virtualization.
In OpenVz the resources of VPS are shared from the Dedicated Server and in KVM the resources are taken from the server itself but it is allotted. So KVM based VPS is more powerful than OpenVz.
A Dedicated server means a fully configured system itself with own resource. It’s not virtual. You can access the root, edit the port, IP and more. Every resources are allotted and not shared from any source.
I think now you got up with a small idea about what is a VPS and Dedicated Server. Now we can go to our core topic “When you buy a VPS”.
When you buy a VPS with WHM/Cpanel
From the above section you have got an idea about what a VPS is. Now I’m going to explain about how the VPS looks like or else how all ways you can control a VPS with WHM/Cpanel.
In the market, the web hosting providers are proving managed and unmanaged VPS. Managed VPS means your VPS is fully managed and controlled by the provider itself. They will give you full support for that VPS.
Unmanaged VPS means, your VPS is not at all managed by the providers. All the risk is on your side. They will not provide any type support on it. If needed some firm will take service charge on it.
In both cases you will get root, WHM and Cpanel Access. It’s your right to get access to these all area. Some firms will hesitate to give access to these areas. They will only provide the Cpanel access if you are hosting a single domain only.
Remember that a VPS can hosting unlimited domains not only a single domain. If the provider is not willing to give you the WHM or root access, then the product he delivered is not a VPS. It’s a Shared Hosting.
Some firm are providing like that, that made me to write this post to inform you.
Some will provide the WHM access by request. That time don’t this that this is a VPS. WHM access is also provided to Reseller Hosting too.
So now you are thinking that “How to find out the WHM for VPS and Reseller Hosting”. It’s very simple. Read the below section.
How to find out the WHM for VPS and Reseller Hosting
As I told you it’s very simple to find it out. See both the images below.
One is the WHM for VPS and another one is the WHM for Reseller Hosting. Do you find any difference in it. Just check there is System reboot option is available or not. In VPS panel the option will be there and in Reseller Hosting panel it will not be.
So, I think you all understand the topic very well. Please check these things when you buy a VPS with WHM/Cpanel. I faced this issue from a Web Hosting provider. I’m not willing to reveal the name of the company. But users beware of this. We all are paying money to get a Virtual Privet server(VPS) not for a Shared or Reseller Hosting. It’s your right to get access to root, WHM and Cpanel when you buy a VPS even if it is managed or unmanaged.
