At the upcoming Glow Time event on September 9, Apple is set to reveal the eagerly awaited iPhone 18 lineup along with several other new products.
Ahead of this event, Apple has released multiple new betas, including what could be the final beta for iOS 18.0 before the release candidate (RC) versions are available, according to 9To5Mac.
The iOS 18.1 beta 3 reportedly brings several new features and changes, especially to Apple’s AI-driven Apple Intelligence. For more details, check out the latest updates.
Clean Up Feature in Photos
According to reports, a key feature introduced in iOS 18.1 beta 3 is the new Clean Up tool in the Photos app, powered by Apple Intelligence. This feature allows users to effortlessly remove unwanted objects from their images. By selecting the Clean Up option in the photo editor, users can tap, brush, or circle the areas they wish to remove. For more detailed edits, the feature includes pinch-to-zoom functionality.
What sets Apple’s Clean Up feature apart is its ability to suggest objects for removal. When users enter Clean Up mode, objects that might be suitable for removal are highlighted with a subtle glow, indicating that they can be removed with a single tap, without needing precise circling or brushing. This capability also extends to human faces, allowing users to obscure them for enhanced privacy.
Removal of US Region Restriction
One of the more significant changes in iOS 18.1 beta 3 is the removal of the US region restriction for Apple Intelligence features. Previously, users needed to set their device’s region to the United States to access these AI-driven features. In the new beta, users can now access Apple Intelligence from any location, as long as their device language and Siri’s language are set to US English.
However, it’s important to note that this feature remains unavailable in the European Union and China due to ongoing regulatory challenges. Users in these regions will be unable to activate Apple Intelligence, even if they have the correct language settings.
New Setup Walkthrough in iOS 18.1 Beta 3
After installing iOS 18.1 beta 3, users will encounter a new setup walkthrough. This process includes several screens that introduce and explain the new features in the update, such as Apple Intelligence and notification summaries. Users have the option to configure these features right away or to set them up at a later time.
macOS 15.1 Beta 3 Update
Lastly, macOS 15.1 beta 3 brings a major update to the Mac App Store’s download behavior. Users can now download apps larger than 1GB directly to an external drive, a feature that is especially beneficial for those with limited internal storage space.
