Apple, based in California, is expected to introduce the next generation of its popular wireless earbuds, the AirPods Pro 3, possibly launching alongside the iPhone 16 series. A recent report indicates that the AirPods Pro 3 will feature enhanced active noise cancellation (ANC), offering improved performance compared to the current AirPods Pro 2.
A well-known tipster, Kosutami, has suggested that the AirPods Pro 3 will bring significant enhancements to noise cancellation, utilizing what’s being called “digital ANC.” This suggests that Apple may prioritize software improvements and advanced audio processing to boost the earbuds’ performance, rather than changing their physical design. The AirPods Pro 2, released nearly two years ago, already features “up to twice as much” ANC as its predecessor, making the upcoming model eagerly anticipated for further advancements.
While Kosutami’s past leaks have been mostly reliable, the exact release date for the AirPods Pro 3 is still uncertain. Earlier reports hinted at an upcoming launch, but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has expressed skepticism, suggesting that the earbuds might not arrive until 2025. Gurman anticipates that the delayed release could introduce new health features, an upgraded audio chip, and further enhancements.
Meanwhile, Apple seems to be preparing an update for the rest of its AirPods lineup. The company is anticipated to unveil new low-end and mid-tier AirPods 4 models at the September 9 event. These new models are expected to feature a redesigned in-ear fit, enhanced sound quality, and a USB-C charging case. Notably, the AirPods 4 might also introduce active noise cancellation to a wider audience, making this premium feature more accessible.
In addition, there are rumors of a minor update for the AirPods Max, which could involve switching from a Lightning connector to a USB-C port. However, no major new features or performance improvements are expected for the AirPods Max at this time.
