Apple is reportedly joining forces with Google to enhance its upcoming AI-driven Siri experience through a customized version of Google’s Gemini AI model, as detailed by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The collaboration, estimated to cost Apple around $1 billion per year, will allow Siri to handle complex tasks like summarization, planning, and contextual understanding more efficiently.
The custom Gemini model, featuring a staggering 1.2 trillion parameters, will operate on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute servers, ensuring user data privacy. Meanwhile, Apple’s own smaller models will continue to manage local Siri functions on devices.
Before finalizing this partnership, Apple reportedly considered integrating AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic but eventually chose Google. The deal is distinct from Apple’s existing chatbot integrations, such as ChatGPT, and focuses on behind-the-scenes AI intelligence for Siri.
Apple CEO Tim Cook recently confirmed that the revamped Siri experience will launch next spring, signaling Apple’s renewed commitment to advancing Apple Intelligence. Although the partnership with Google strengthens Apple’s AI ecosystem, the company is still developing its own large-scale AI models, potentially aiming to replace Gemini in the future.
