Apple has unveiled a refreshed version of its AirTag tracker in India, offering better tracking range, a louder built-in speaker, and deeper integration with the Find My ecosystem. The redesigned AirTag keeps the same look and pricing as the previous model, while adding new capabilities such as Apple Watch support and enhanced Precision Finding.
Wider tracking range with new AirTag
The updated AirTag builds on the original 2021 model that became popular for locating everyday belongings like keys, backpacks, and luggage. According to Apple, the new version is designed to help users find misplaced items more quickly and easily, especially when they are nearby but not immediately visible.
A major upgrade is the inclusion of Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip, also found in newer iPhone and Apple Watch models. This enables Precision Finding to guide users from up to 50% greater distances using visual directions, audio cues, and haptic feedback.
Bluetooth performance has also been improved, allowing nearby Apple devices to detect and help locate an AirTag from a longer distance than before.
Louder sound and Apple Watch integration
Apple has reworked the internal speaker, making it around 50% louder than the previous generation. The sound can now be heard from roughly twice the distance, making it easier to locate items hidden inside bags, drawers, or furniture.
For the first time, users can also use Precision Finding on Apple Watch. Owners of Apple Watch Series 9 or later, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, can now track their AirTag directly from their wrist without needing to rely only on an iPhone.
How the new AirTag functions
Like earlier models, the AirTag uses Apple’s Find My network, which relies on nearby Apple devices to securely relay the approximate location of lost items when they are out of direct range. Apple states that this process is fully encrypted and anonymous.
The updated AirTag also supports the “Share Item Location” feature in iOS, allowing users to temporarily share the location of a missing item with trusted contacts or third parties. This includes partner airlines, which can use shared links to help locate delayed or lost luggage. Apple says more than 50 airlines currently support this feature, with access automatically ending after seven days or once the item is recovered.
Design, pricing, and availability
The new AirTag retains the same physical design and remains compatible with existing accessories. Apple says the casing uses 85% recycled plastic, with recycled rare earth materials in the magnets and recycled gold in the circuit boards. The packaging is fully fibre-based.
In India, the pricing remains unchanged at ₹3,790 for a single AirTag and ₹12,900 for a pack of four. Free personalised engraving continues to be available through Apple’s online store and app.
The updated AirTag is available for order now and will arrive at Apple Store locations and authorised resellers later this week. It requires iOS 26 or later or iPadOS 26 or later, along with an Apple Account and Find My enabled.
