AI.com domain purchase Confirmed: Crypto.com’s $70M Super Bowl Bet

The AI.com domain purchase by Crypto.com has officially set a new benchmark in the digital world, with the company spending a staggering $70 million just days before the Super Bowl. The move signals a high-stakes bet on artificial intelligence and brand dominance at a time when global attention is at its peak.

This record-breaking deal, confirmed by the Financial Times, makes AI.com the most expensive domain name ever sold. The transaction was reportedly paid entirely in cryptocurrency to an undisclosed seller, further underscoring Crypto.com’s commitment to its digital-first philosophy.

AI.com Domain Purchase Breaks All-Time Records

The AI.com domain purchase instantly rewrote internet history. Until now, the most expensive domain sale was CarInsurance.com, which sold for $49.7 million in 2010.

Other notable sales, such as VacationRentals.com for $35 million and Voice.com for $30 million, now trail far behind. Even high-profile domains like PrivateJet.com, 360.com, and Sex.com fail to come close to the new $70 million benchmark.

Domain broker Larry Fischer, who facilitated the deal, described assets like AI.com as irreplaceable. According to him, once such a domain becomes available, the chance to acquire it may never return.

Why Crypto.com Made the AI.com Domain Purchase

Crypto.com founder and CEO Kris Marszalek believes the investment aligns with a much larger vision. In his view, artificial intelligence represents one of the most transformative technological waves of the next 10 to 20 years.

Marszalek plans to unveil AI.com during the Super Bowl, using one of the most valuable advertising stages in the world. The timing suggests a calculated effort to introduce AI services to a mainstream audience rather than just tech enthusiasts.

    What AI.com Will Offer Users

Personal AI Agent for Everyday Tasks

Following the AI.com domain purchase, Crypto.com intends to position the platform as a consumer-focused AI hub. The site is expected to launch a personal AI agent designed to assist users with messaging, app navigation, and even stock trading.

Rather than targeting developers or enterprises, the service appears aimed at everyday users who want practical AI tools without technical complexity.

    Super Bowl Launch Strategy

The Super Bowl debut is expected to include a high-profile commercial directing viewers straight to AI.com. A related YouTube video discussing Crypto.com’s Super Bowl strategy and AI ambitions is likely to surface soon, adding further visibility to the launch.

This approach mirrors Crypto.com’s previous marketing plays, which emphasized mass adoption through cultural moments rather than niche campaigns.

A Pattern of Big-Budget Brand Bets

The AI.com domain purchase is not an isolated move. Crypto.com previously spent roughly $700 million on naming rights for a major sports arena, instantly boosting brand recognition worldwide.

By owning both Crypto.com and AI.com, Marszalek now controls two category-defining domains. Few companies in the world can claim such digital real estate, especially in industries as competitive as cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence.

Do Premium Domains Deliver Real Value?

Despite the hype, the long-term return on ultra-expensive domains remains uncertain. Some past buyers struggled to monetize their acquisitions, with at least one former owner of Sex.com eventually declaring bankruptcy.

Still, supporters argue that domains like AI.com offer unmatched authority, trust, and visibility. For companies betting on future-facing technologies, that credibility alone may justify the cost.

As the AI.com domain purchase shows, Crypto.com is betting that in the next decade, AI won’t just be a feature — it will be a category. And owning the category name itself could prove priceless.
